It is with great pleasure that we are officially opening the call for applications for our first annual BRS Eolas Award, a bursary up to €1000 to facilitate national or international travel for PhD students to attend conferences or research secondments in other labs.
Eolas (pronounced OH-las) is the Irish word for knowledge, information, or expertise. This is something we in the Biological Research Society wish to foster and celebrate amongst our members.
This will be an annual bursary, up to the value of €1000, to allow postgraduate members of the BRS to attend conferences or visit other labs for the purpose of a research secondment, to expand or disseminate their “eolas”.
The successful applicant(s) will also be given a chance to present their research as part of the Keynote Session at the BRS Research Day in April.
The review panel (consisting of independent BRS committee members and Professors in SoBT) will assess the application considering the following criteria:
- The extent to which the research visit/conference would support the completion of the project.
- The impact of the conference in the scientific field and the candidates contribution to the conference.
- The influence that the proposed work could have on the candidate’s research.
- The specialized nature of the project and the necessity of visiting another laboratory to execute the planned work.
- The student’s capability to successfully complete the work within the appointed time frame.
The deadline for applications will be Friday 28th February at 5pm, and applications can be filled out at the link below:
Feel free to reach out to brs@dcu.ie with any questions.
Wishing all the very best of luck to all applicants,
BRS Committee
