Dr Siobhán Jordan Talk

The BRS, in partnership with the Institute of Biology Ireland, are delighted to announce that DCU graduate Dr Siobhán Jordan, who is currently CEO of Interface-The knowledge connection for business, will give a talk entitled  “Biotechnology and creativity – reflections on multidisciplinary degrees” on March 24th at 2pm in X101.

We will also be announcing the winner of the Inspirefest and Lennox Postgraduate of the Year competition at the talk. All are welcome to attend. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Research Day 2017

The School of Biotechnology Research Day takes place on Friday January 27th from 9am in the Science Building!

This is the BRS’ biggest event of the year and a chance for you to see what many key members of the BRS get up to as part of their research!

The day will consist of a mixture of 5 minute and 15 minute talks from some of the Schools leading researchers as well talks from two esteemed guest speakers. This year also sees the introduction of video presentations so make sure you come along.

As usual, many reps will also be in attendance with stands in the foyer of the Science building and a Passport prize scheme will be in place, so be sure to pick up a form an visit all the stands for your chance to win a cash prize!

Morning and afternoon coffees, and also lunch will be provided throughout the day.

There will be a drinks reception in the Ivy House in Drumcondra from 6pm.

We hope to see a big turnout for Research Day!

Halloween Party 2016

We are delighted to announce that the BRS will be hosting our annual Halloween Party on Friday October 28th from 7pm onwards in the Brian Boru (Hedigans) in Glasnevin! This is in conjunction with Physics and Chemistry Postgrad Socs. 

Tickets can be bought from any committee member for €3 and includes,entry and finger food. 

Prizes will also be given out on the night, with €50 going to the best costume, so get creative!

The after party, as always, will be in McGowans of Phibsboro with discounted entry for ticket holders.

BRS Meet n’ Greet

To kick off the 2016/17 academic year the BRS will host a Meet ‘N’ Greet evening on Wednesday October 5th at 6pm in XG14.

The evening will have a special theme to allow everyone to get to know each other and our research better in a more relaxed way.

All are welcome to attend and if there are any new staff or students starting in the next while that may not be on our lists please feel free to extend this invitation to them.

There will, of course, be free pizza, beer and refreshments provided!

BRS vs PGAC vs PRS Sports Day

Sports Day 2016 is now finished.

The 2016 Tri-School sports day will take place on Friday, 19th August. Last year the BRS and the PGAC (Postgraduate Affairs Committee) battled it out for the coveted trophy with the PGAC ending up the victors. This year, the PRS (Physics Research Society) have joined the fray.

Events lined up for the day include:

The events will continue into the evening then in Nubar for a BBQ and more games such as beer pong and the oreo challenge!

Research Day 2016

Research Day is now finished.

The School of Biotechnology Research Day takes place on Friday January 29th from 9am in the Science Building!

This is the BRS’ biggest event of the year and a chance for you to see what many key members of the BRS get up to as part of their research!

The day will consist of a mixture of 5 minute and 15 minute talks from some of the Schools leading researchers as well as an address from an Industry partner and an Academic fellow, both former members of the School of Biotech! There will also be a short presentation from the University’s Athena Swan committee. 

As usual, many reps will also be in attendance with stands in the foyer of the Science building and a Passport prize scheme will be in place, so be sure to pick up a form an visit all the stands for your chance to win €100!

Morning and afternoon coffees, and also lunch will be provided throughout the day. 

The event will be followed, as always, by the Awards ceremony and Wine Reception where beverages and snacks will be provided also (for those who don’t drink wine, there will also be beer don’t worry!). 

And as is BRS custom, we aim to end up in McGowans of Phibsboro at some point in the night. 

We hope to see a big turnout for Research Day!

BRS Halloween Party 2015

The Annual BRS/Chem Soc Halloween Party will be held on Oct 29th in the Slipper 8pm!

Tickets are 5 euro and will include a complimentary drink and food! They will be on sale from Friday from Kim or Niamh in X181b (Loscher Lab)!

So get on those fangs, dust off those cobwebs and get to what promises to be the night of the year so far!
